TaxTech Weekly: project b., TaxTech News+ & e-invoicing

🇩🇪 TaxTech of the Week: project b.
Still in a somewhat stealthy mode, Munich-based project b. is building a next-gen blue-collar payroll infrastructure – that is, when you believe the description of investor Patric Hellermann. In more official words from their website: project b. is on a mission to unf*ck payroll.
project b. was founded more than a year ago in June 2023, followed by an undisclosed pre-seed funding round in July 2023 from five investors: Fundamental, First Momentum Ventures, Lakestar, Sequoia Scout and QED Investors.
Led by managing directors Aaron Hayos and Stephan Weber, project b. tackles a TaxTech topic that is a bit more unusual than the usual accounting, private income tax or SMBs / SMEs SaaS offerings: payroll.
Payroll is a notoriously complex topic; even within the German tax framework. There a not only a few tax professionals who never deal with doing payroll during their careers and instead stick to the more general work of business and income tax declarations. Sometimes, there are even dedicated teams within a tax advisor office that do all the payroll for all the tax advisor's clients – letting the other teams focus on the tax declaration business.
This is just to show how ambitious the three co-founders Aaron Hayes, Stephan Weber and Rachel Pregun were when they started this project together with Yannik Wojcicki (Engineering) and Niklas Prieß (Product).
They "are a group of experienced founders building the OS to unlock employment financial data. Operating in stealth; but [are] open for business", with integrations to DATEV, ADDISON SBS Lohn, Agenda and GDI Software. GDPR-compliant and ISO 27001-certified.
You can join their waitlist on their website if you can't wait to try it out yourself. In the meantime, you might want to try out their little browser-based game to kill some time and see how wasteful payroll work can be.
If all of this sounds interesting to you, project b. is also hiring in the engineering and design department. Scroll down to learn more!
