AI in control functions: "I hope we don't pester others" (🇩🇪)

Interview from JUVE Steuermarkt with mechanical engineering group Voith's Chief Tax Officer Wolf-Dieter Mangold about making life at work easier and tax knowledge more accessible within the group.

September 18th, 2023 | Haufe, Stefan Heine

TaxTechs are still safe from AI for a long time - thanks to bureaucracy (🇩🇪)

This article from Haufe's Stefan Heine suggests that while AI will become increasingly integrated into the TaxTech field, the complexity and individual nature of tax laws will probably prevent it from fully replacing human expertise in the foreseeable future.

Beyond Germany

This week, I want to inform you about Dutch (🇳🇱) Taxdoo competitor Staxxer and Hnry, a startup from New Zealand (🇳🇿) that offers the full tax package to sole traders. Plus, Austrian (🇦🇹) startup Bookkeepr received a six-digit funding to expand in the local market and to ramp up their AI efforts.

Staxxer is a Nijmegen-based (Dutch community near the German border) VAT compliancy startup: "VAT compliancy for online sellers. Software driven, human centered." is how they describe themselves.

With a team of about 15 humans, more than 400 customers and a funding of one million euro received at the beginning of 2023, Staxxer seems to be all set to tackle the complex topic of VAT compliancy in Europe.

Hnry however is something completely different. Hnry is based in Wellington, New Zealand on the other side of the world, promising their customers to never think about taxes again.

Closely resembling to what in Europe Kontist's tax service is offering, Hnrysecured a Series B funding of 35.000.000,00 NZD (ca. 20.000.00,00 €) in January 2023.

Bookkeepr, a young Austrian accounting and tax startup, just received short-term financial freedom. See this weeks article here.
