Almost unbelievable: Germany's ELSTER quietly launches "fast registration for private individuals"

Some hate it, some love it. It's certainly appreciated by the few knowledgeable "private individuals" who use the "thieving bird" to do their private tax return for free.
But — it wouldn't be ELSTER if they didn't call their new, cool VideoIdent feature like as if they were trying to get you to sign some terms and conditions.
However, it is great news that you can now register for ELSTER in a modern way — instead of gritting your teeth and waiting for a physical letter with a secret code!
All of which should make German TaxTechs the happiest, who often have to rely on either the annual pay cheque form or the at least three-day letter process to fill in all the necessary details to get the humble people of Germany their money back:
1.095 EURO ON AVERAGE! (I won't believe you if you've never heard of this before!)
Anyway, the new process looks like this:
1️⃣ Visit: elster (dot) de (slash) eportal (slash) start
2️⃣ Create user account
3️⃣ Fast registration for private individuals (Don't go for "Classic registration" if you don’t fancy a letter. Do it if you feel lonely.)
4️⃣ Meet the requirements of "a mobile device with camera" and "a valid identity document"
5️⃣ Be a private individual or a jointly assessed partner
6️⃣ Download the ElsterSecure app
7️⃣ Download the Nect Wallet app
8️⃣ Set aside 20 minutes of your precious time
9️⃣ Select
1️⃣0️⃣ Start the process!
1️⃣1️⃣ File your personal income tax return in Germany!
1️⃣2️⃣ Wait up to four months to receive your income tax assessment!
1️⃣3️⃣ Done!
All jokes aside — this is great! Consider yourself lucky if you haven't registered yet :)
